Speaking Engagements

Speaking engagements are a great marketing tactic to tell people what you do and how they benefit from your product or service or how to solve a problem. It also portrays you as an expert in your field which translates into credibility for you and your company.

Look for organizations that provide a format to address a group of people seeking the type of information you can provide. On a local level, contact your chamber of commerce to see if they have an educational program that allows individuals to present to groups.

Many chambers have economic development groups within them to help local businesses get started and thrive. Volunteer to be part of the speaker series for topics you are familiar with. Beyond the local chamber, if your reach requires it, seek industry organizations that have annual gatherings in which opportunities exist to address a target audience.

These groups are always seeking expertise to hold specific breakout sessions to educate their colleagues and peers. It is the perfect chance to get the exposure you are seeking. Speaking engagements will work for you on any level.

Your child’s school may be seeking someone of your expertise to speak with a classroom or the entire grade or student body. This is a tremendous way to help and also create some visibility.

Be prepared and organized for your speech. I highly suggest joining and practicing your speech at a local Toastmaster meeting. Locate a few local Toastmaster chapters and attend there meetings. Each chapter has a different feel. Choose the one that fits you best.

Budget: $25 - $100 per month for handouts
