Mentor - A mentor traditionally is someone with whom another has a mutually supportive business relationship, where the more experienced individual passes wisdom, forbearance and experience upon the less seasoned professional.

Mentors are NOT the same as coaches, consultants or contractors.

Often this is done as a way of 'paying one's success forward.' A strong mentor relationship actually has mutual benefits, while outside, retained consulting relationships tend to be more of a one way exchange.
