A banner ad is a graphical Internet advertisment.
A typical banner ad size is 468-by-60 pixels ad space on commercial Web sites that are usually hot-linked to the advertiser's site.
There are many networks of participating sites displaying banner ads in exchange for credits, which are converted (using a predetermined exchange rate) into ads to be displayed on other sites.
Warning, there is a tendency of web visitors to ignore banner ads, even when the banner ads contain information visitors are actively looking for.
On the other hand, banner ad have dropped in cost and are worth a test.

If there's one important consideration in developing web page banner ads, it's this. You will have the undivided attention of your audience for no more than five seconds.
In that time your banner will have to stop dead in their tracks and sufficiently interest them to abandon what they've come looking for at the web page its on and watch and read your banner. If your banner really works, they'll click on it and visit the page it links to. If it doesn't, they're history. You have five seconds. Make the most of them.
